5 Men Arrested For Extortion In Peel Region – Police Set Up New Extortion Investigative Task Force (EITF)
South Asian businesses were targeted by 5 men extorting them and terrorizing the community. Peel Region Police are investigating 29 separate cases using their new Extortion Investigative Task Force (EITF).
Of the 29 cases, 9 involved shootings with multiple bullets being discharged. Luckily, no injuries occurred. Task force lead Supt. Shelley Thompson identified the 5 suspects:
- Gagan Ajit Singh, 23
- Anmoldeep Singh, 23
- Hashmeet Kaur, 25
- Lymanjot Kaur, 21
- Arundeep Thind, 39
A search warrant for a Brampton address led to the seizure of a firearm, ammunition, large sums of cash, 11 computers and approximately 50 cell phones.
Suspects were typically contacted by phone or social media. They were demanded to pay by cash or money transfer under a threat of violence.
Many businesses are not reporting the extortion due to fear of the suspects and are making payments to them.
