Police Search For Suspect and Motive For Two Bus Stop Shootings In 24 Hours
At a bus stop in northwest Toronto at Jane Street and Driftwood Avenue, two shootings that took place within 24 hours has led to the death of one man and a teenager in critical but stable condition in hospital.
Toronto Police Inspector Peter Wehby says police are trying to determine if this is gang-related or a random act.
“What I can tell you about these shootings is that, although they appear to be random, investigators are presently working on the reason why these two individuals were targeted,” said Wehby. “But I’m not going to say that it’s not random at this point.”
“It’s not a normal thing to just shoot somebody who is standing at a bus stop, so this has hallmarks of gang activity. But I’m not going to say at this point that we can confirm its gang activity.”
On Friday night a 16 year old was shot in the face while waiting at the bus stop, he is in critical condition but stable and alive.
At approximately 3pm on Saturday, a man waiting at the bus stop was approached and shot 3 times, 2 times in the stomach and 1 to the head. He was taken to a trauma centre and pronounced dead.
The male shooter was described as 18-30 years of age. A black Acura RDX was located and believed linked to both crime scenes.
